If you’ve been taking your Kindle along to the beach or the pool or even just to your own comfy couch, we hope “The Elect Stories” has made it onto your summer reading list and provided a bit of escape. In the first 4 chapters, we’ve met our would-be heroes, felt the menace of our rising villains, and started exploring a new world of intrigue and adventure. We hope you’ve enjoyed that… because now the second act begins.
Good ole Professor Joe Campbell referred to this part of the “Hero’s Journey” as “the Crossing of the Threshold,” the moment when the protagonists leave the known world behind. They will meet new allies along the way, but as they descend toward the abyss of the unknown, they will mostly encounter challenges and temptations. Tradition tells us that a rebirth lies ahead of the Third Act, of course, but this point of the Journey is like being in a curved tunnel, with no lights visible at either end. As Mr. Sharp is fond of saying, “It’s gonna be dark.”
